It’s community education time at the Hub Foundation Castlemaine. With assistance from the Mount Alexander Shire Council, the group has decided to run a series of information sessions on battery storage of power between July and October this year.
“People are asking us a whole range of questions about batteries” said project officer, Jo Kaptein. “Like how do they work, what do they cost, what’s the payback period could it be appropriate for my house, would I lose my feed-in-tariff, are they safe and is now the best time to buy?
“As a result we’ve asked two experts to address a series of four public meetings in different parts of Mount Alexander Shire. Damien Moyse and Andrew Reddaway of the Alternative Technology Association in Melbourne have spent many years researching and advising on energy matters and are looking forward to handling a wide range of questions”
“The session times and locations are listed on the MASH website: mash.org.au with the first on Wednesday 20 July at Buda Historic House & Garden in Castlemaine. The sessions will be as non-technical as possible and will be primarily for information giving rather than selling. Interested people are requested to register for the event so as to avoid disappointment”.
Further information sessions on batteries are expected to be held in Bendigo and will be announced when arrangements are finalised.
Understanding power bills
As a community service, on 30th June and 4th July the Foundation is also organising information sessions for people who have already gone solar with MASH. These sessions will help MASH custopmers understand their power bill. In particular, by easy- to- follow steps, they will help people calculate the full contribution being made by solar power. The bill itself is not enough. People also need to read the output of the solar panels from the inverter. It’s all quite easy but often misunderstood. The expert talk will be followed by a Q&A session and time for one-on-one sessions with facilitators.
