Carmen and Remi’s beautiful home overlooking Happy Valley in Castlemaine has just had a 2Kw MASH2 solar system installed. Jo Kaptein from the Hub Foundation visited them on a rainy cold Monday afternoon to see how it went. Their home faces north, ideal for solar. It is filled with light with the most spectacular views – we saw a stunning rainbow when we were there – and designed to be very energy efficient.
“The first reason for going solar was ethical as we don’t want fossil fuel industry to be running for too much longer”, says Remi. “The second reason is pragmatic which is to go off-grid as soon as we can and this MASH system is the first step towards that.”
“I am convinced that using natural energy is the right thing to do and it is a good investment now”, says Carmen.
“MASH organising the bulk-buy brought us over the line. That’s because MASH is reasonably priced and simplified the process. We haven’t had to worry about anything; it’s all gone smoothly. We like MASH because it is local and we know the people behind it.
“Remi has an electric bike and we can’t wait to get our electric car as well. We might even become an electric fuel station. Why not!”
