Let’s have ‘More Australian Solar Homes’!
MASH – short for ‘More Australian Solar Homes’ – is a hugely successful community solar bulk-buy project for homes in Central Victoria. Already close to 500 households in the region have installed solar with MASH since September 2014. And now with this new round of MASH, batteries are also being offered at discounted bulk-buy prices helping residents capitalise on the new, emerging technologies of solar + storage.
MASH consolidates the buying power of local residents
One reason why MASH has been so successful is that it cuts the complexity out of the decision-making process by offering high quality systems that are reliable, backed by solid warranties and installed according to leading industry standards. In addition, MASH consolidates the collective buying power of residents to negotiate heavily discounted prices; around 15-20% less than could be negotiated individually for similar systems. Customers say they like MASH because it is backed by Councils and Sustainability Groups. In the words of MASH customer, Bruce Carruthers, “I feel confident that the Hub Foundation has done the legwork for us to find the best systems at the best prices.”
Organised by a not-for-profit
MASH is organised by the Hub Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation in Castlemaine, Central Victoria, dedicated to helping people cut their CO2 emissions and electricity bills.
Next MASH Bulk-Buy Launches 26 July 2016
The next round of the MASH community solar bulk-buy – the third round – launches on Tuesday 26 July 2016 in three shires: the City of Greater Bendigo, Mount Alexander and Macedon Ranges. It has as its partners, the three Councils in these areas as well as the three sustainability groups.
MASH: Benefits to residents, communities and the environment
Since September 2014, when MASH started installations, the project has achieved:
- 480 new solar PV rooftops for households in Mt Alexander Shire, Macedon Ranges and Greater Bendigo – see the MASH Map of all solar installations, zoomable right down to street level!
- 1.7MW (increase in installed solar PV capacity)
- $380,000 per year off residents’ electricity bills
- 2,600 tonnes CO2 emissions cut annually (equivalent to 525 cars off the road)
- Over $25,000 worth of free systems to local community groups
- High levels of customer satisfaction. See what MASH customers are saying.
Supported by Local Councils and Local Sustainability Groups
Council is pleased to be a partner of the MASH solar bulk-buy in the City of Greater Bendigo. We commend MASH to residents as it already has a track record of delivering high quality systems at competitive prices.
Solar can help cut your power bills and, with MASH, there is a strong community benefit too – a free community solar system for every 100 Bendigo homes installed.
Council has supported the MASH solar bulk-buy initiative since it started in 2014. More than 300 shire residents have already chosen to go solar with MASH.
We commend this program for its quality and value, as well as the wider benefits it delivers to our community and the environment.
Council welcomes the MASH community solar bulk-buy in our Shire. Over 150 residents in Macedon Ranges have chosen to install a MASH system since November 2015. The program has been well-proven for its quality and value.
It also delivers a tangible benefit to our community in the form of free solar systems for community run buildings for every 100 homes installed. We encourage residents interested in solar, including battery storage, to take a look.
The uptake of MASH2 by households in Macedon Ranges was tremendous. We are pleased to continue our support of MASH as it enters this third exciting round which includes high quality battery storage at bulk-buy prices.
We encourage anyone interested in going solar – from a brand new system to adding storage to your existing array – to consider MASH3. The program is delivering tangible benefits for the people of the Macedon Ranges, our community and the environment
MASG is pleased to continue its support for the MASH solar bulk-buy as it enters its third round. MASH has proven to deliver high quality solar PV systems at competitive prices and has been responsible for a marked cut in CO2 emissions.
We recommend that anyone looking to go solar – or add battery storage to their existing system – considers what MASH3 has to offer.
BSG is proud to be a partner of the MASH community solar bulk-buy as it launches in the City of Greater Bendigo. MASH has already helped close to 500 households in neighbouring shires cut their power bills and their emissions.
We hope that the same can be achieved in Bendigo and we encourage residents who are considering solar – or solar+battery storage – to take a good look at what MASH has to offer.
Is the Hub Foundation making any money out of MASH?
The not-for-profit Hub Foundation receives a small commission on each installation in order to make a contribution towards the costs of marketing and administration of the MASH project. The directors of the company receive no remuneration.
